The Way You Live
Welcome to the first entry of the Faith Chronicles!
Nyeka here! Pursuing my faith and aiming to live just as Jesus lived, at the tender age of sixteen, has inspired me to start this blog to find others who are trying to do the same. Is that you? It is hard being a Christian isn't it? Even more so, a teenage Christian. We encounter so many obstacles and distractions in our day to day, whether it is peer pressure, school or just life in general. So on this journey together, let's attempt to figure it out.
First, let's establish our motto. 1Timothy 4:12.
It reads:
"Don't let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity".
Over the next couple of weeks, we will use Paul's advice to Timothy as our manual to the life of a teenage Christian. Are you ready??
The basis of today's discussion: "The Way You Live".
To discuss this we must answer this question; How are we called to live?I know some of you definitely said "um..,like Jesus?" and you are 100% correct but what does that really mean?
According to the Bible, Jesus often went off alone to be with God (Mark 6:46, Luke 5:16 and Mark 14:35 are just a few examples). He was intentional about the time dedicated to God. Therefore we can conclude that for a good and solid foundation in our relationship with God we must do the same. This is where our quiet times come in.
Rather try to make it exciting by switching it up. For me, I admire all of God's creation and the peace that comes with it by going to the beach and having my quiet time. Here is a video from Saturday!!
Speaking of resisting temptation though , let's look at when Jesus was tested in the wilderness. This can be found in Luke 4:1-13. Whew! Jesus really did a big one holding strong against the devil the way He did. Despite actually having the power to change the circumstances like the devil was imploring Him to do, He did not submit to the devil. But notice how in each of His responses He uses the Word (the Bible) to trump whatever the devil is trying to deceive Him with.

We too can resist the devil by reading the Word regularly. When we know what God says, it becomes so much easier to know when we are being lied to and also have strong convictions.
Galatians 5:22 (fruits of the Spirit) also blatantly outlines the attributes we are to have. We must be loving, joyful, peaceful, tolerant, kind, faithful, gentle, and must have self-control. These are the ways we are to live.
So friends, today we have reflected on the way we ought to behave as Christians, the habits we must adopt in our lives. We must make time for our heavenly Father, read our Bibles and aim to produce the fruits of the Spirit through our actions.
Think about this for the next discussion (I will be too),
Are our words important?
Until next time,
Nyeka.
Our words are important, but when it comes to the comparison to God's words, we have no say. that's why 2 cents.
ReplyDeleteWords are super important. The more I fill myself with Jesus Words I am able to combat the negative words in my head and the unloving words that come out of my mouth. Jesus words are life and light, that is what I want to spread.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. If Jesus needed quiet quality time with God, how much more do I? So I can listen to his words above all of the other voices out there, including my own doubts.
ReplyDeleteMy words are very important especially when they start with "I am". They can make or break me. So I try to speak words that affirm who I want to be even though I may not be there yet. Example "I am loving".
ReplyDeleteWords are very important . I've learnt that I can make things happen for me by speaking it into being. Speak positive words into your life for the power of life and death is in the tongue So say something like Once I study I'll pass my exams God promises to grant me the desires of my heart.
ReplyDeleteYeah, our words are important, and so is the Word of the Lord (Bible) like you said. It takes consistent studying and pondering of the Bible to help refine our language and words to be better men/women for God.
ReplyDeleteYes living life as a Christian is tough and doing it at so young an age can be even tougher. But I am so proud of you for making that decision. God sees and hears you. So when the challenges come, sticking close to the word, following Jesus example by praying and crying out to God will be key in your Journey. He never promised easy but he promised to always be with you. Love you my pumpkin. Keep on keeping on.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Nyeka! Living life as a Christian for me is like school: primary, secondary or tertiary, take your pick.
ReplyDeleteThere's lots to learn about life, and without a good text, the bible, to reference, a great teacher, Christ, and guidance counselor, Holy Spirit to help you with your weak points (and we ALL have plenty) when the great instructor God allows you to be tested in what you THINK you know about life, most of us struggle to cope or worse fail miserably. I've had my share of hard lessons, but the God head, through the Word and devine intervention, has kept me grounded and brought me successfully through each trial/test thus far. I can only pray to keep focused and faithful to obtain the prize in due time.
Love the blog Ny.
